Obituary for Robert T. Regets

Robert T. Regets, of Auburn, passed into eternal rest on Friday, October 7, 2016, after a 4 month battle with a cancer related illness.
Bob was born in Auburn on July 21, 1940, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Pysnack Regets. He was a 1954 graduate of SS Peter & Paul School, and a member of the Class of 1958 at Auburn Central High. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962 at Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City, SD, and enjoyed being on the reunion committee for the 28th Wing Association.
Bob retired as a Captain from the Auburn Fire Dept., and served as the Training Officer. He was currently President of the Retired Auburn Firefighters. From 1991 to 2006 he worked for Farm Family Insurance Co. as an Arson and Fraud Investigator. He returned to Farm Family in 2008, and traveled across the country for them as an independent contractor, retiring again in 2010.
He was a lifetime member of SS Peter & Paul Church, serving as a Trustee for many years. He was also a member of the church Holy Name Society. Bob was most humbled when he received the extremely rare honor of Knight of St. Gregory the Great by Pope John Paul II in 1993 for his work with the church and Society.
Bob married the love of his life Joann Carberry on May 18, 1963. He had a great love for family, and an inspiring passion for life. Many family and friends will always remember a “twirl” around the dance floor with him.
He loved to travel, (he and Joann visited all 50 States) a passion he passed on to his children and grandchildren. This love of travel also led him and Joann to reside in Rapid City, SD for several years. He also enjoyed stopping at Casinos in his travels.
He enjoyed his regular Friday night card game. Bob was very instrumental in establishing the Volya Dance Ensemble in 1972, and remained involved until 2009.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his daughter Kim Guzalak (Anita), his son Mark (Erin), and his grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Amanda and Richard K. Guzalak, Amiriah and Kazli Regets and Theron Bennett. He is also survived by his sisters Valerie Baim and Judith Larkin, sister-in-law Nancy Carberry, his aunts Helen Ranney and Clara Regets, several nieces and nephews, cousins, godchildren and several special friends.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the many nurses who cared for Bob at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Lifetime Care for their extraordinary care and compassion.
A Memorial Liturgy will be offered at 10 A.M. Thursday, October 20, 2016 in SS Peter & Paul Church. There are no prior calling hours.
