Obituary for John M. Baumes

John M. Baumes, 56, of Auburn, died unexpectedly Saturday, February 23, at home following a brief illness.
John was a life resident of the Auburn area. He was a graduate of Auburn High School, Cayuga Community College, and earned a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from the L.C. Smith College of Engineering at Syracuse University. He was formerly employed by Allied Chemical, Rhone-Poulenc Pharmaceuticals, and retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb, following 26 years of service.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, an accomplished gardener and talented artist, who enjoyed music and spending time with family and friends.
John is survived by his wife of 33 years Nancy (Speck) Baumes, his son Steven Baumes and daughter Katie Baumes. Also surviving are his parents Martin and Mary Sweeting Baumes, siblings Mark (Lisa Hart), Ellen Baumes, Paul (Terrie), Susan (Brian) Curry, his aunts Betsy Sweeting, and Mildred Bondy. In addition he is survived by his brothers-in-law Dr. David Speck, Arch Priest Dr. Michael (Julie) Speck, his nieces Moira Curry, Barbara and Christina Speck, nephews Daniel and Gregory Baumes, Braeden and Ethan Curry, Michael and Peter Speck , several cousins and his faithful friends Bear and Holly.
He was predeceased by grandparents Martin and Frances Baumes and James and Minerva Sweeting.
Funeral services for John will be at 9 A.M. Wednesday from the Plis Funeral Home, and 9:30 A.M. in St. Nicholas Church. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Half Acre.
Friends are invited to call Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. with Panihyda Services at 6:30, at the funeral home, 220 State St., Auburn.
