Eleanor L. Hughes, 86, of Marcellus passed away Tuesday July 12, 2016 at the Syracuse Home. Born in Syracuse to the late Shirley Floyd and Helen (Short) Davey, she was a 1947 graduate of Onondaga Central Schools. Eleanor’s work career included working as a secretary for the National Grange Insurance in PA and WV, retail and finally as secretary for the Vienna Baptist Church in Vienna WV.
She was a member of several United Methodist Churches which includes Valley Methodist Church in Syracuse, NY, where she married her husband of 61 years Kenneth W. Hughes, Marcellus United Methodist Church in Marcellus, NY, Trinity United Methodist Church in Lock Haven, PA., were she taught Sunday School, Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna, WV., were she was a member for over 40 years, taught Sunday School, was active in Agape Fellowship and was the secretary of Resources of the United Methodist Women Fellowship, then she returned to Marcellus and once again belonged to the Marcellus United Methodist Church and was of member of the United Methodist Women.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters Cheryl (Robert) Fryer, Carlene (David) Smith and Caryn (Chris) Barnett; daughter-in-law Leni Hughes; brother Robert Davey; grandchildren Phillip (Jamie), Sara and Amy Hughes, Laura (Harry) Hughes Palmer, Robert (Lindsay) and Bradley (Megan) Fryer, Davida and Kendra Smith, Nathan and Kaitlin Decker, great grandchildren Maxwell, Benjamin and Christian Hughes, Bryson, Morgan and Nolan Fryer along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Kenneth, sons Chris and Clark Hughes, and brother William Davey.
Services for Eleanor will be 11 a.m. Thursday July 14, at the Marcellus United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Memorial donations in Eleanor’s name may be made to the Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place Health & Rehabilitation, 7740 Meigs Rd., Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
