Obituary for George W. Kinder

George W. Kinder, 86, of Marcellus, NY passed away peacefully Saturday August 1, 2015 at his home at the Upper Crown Mill in Marcellus. George was born April 9, 1929 to George and Mabel Kinder. He grew up on Newcastle Rd. in the Westvale neighborhood of Syracuse. He attended Solvay High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. In 1944 he went to work at Solvay Process, which later became Allied Chemical. George spent his entire career at Allied Chemical, working there for 42 years until the plant closed in 1986. His father had worked at Allied for 44 years and his grandfather for 48 years. Utilizing his amazing mechanical abilities and his leadership skills, he rose to the position of Plant Supervisor of Maintenance and Construction. During a wonderful retirement he and his beloved wife Ruth and numerous friends traveled all over the United States and much the world. For many years they "snow birded" in Myrtle Beach, SC and St. Augustine, FL., with their Central New York friends.
He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 67 years , Ruth (Webb) Kinder; his son, Ted Kinder and his wife Kathryn; his daughter Laurie Kinder Sorge and her husband John; his six grandchildren Jamie and Chris Kinder; Ashleigh Ibanez; Whitney Gaither; Nikki Glenos and Ellie Andres, and four great grandchildren.
During his life he was an avid bowler, golfer and baseball fan. One of his greatest joys was being with his children and grandchildren and supporting them in their many sports and activities. His people skills, gentle spirit and ability to "fix pretty much anything" made him friends where ever he went. He was much loved and will be missed!
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 7 at the First Presbyterian Church of Marcellus. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 on Thursday, August 6 at the Plis Funeral Home, 33 North St., Marcellus.
