Obituary for Anthony V. Curinga

On July 30, 2020 Anthony Vincent Curinga of Marcellus, NY passed away from the coronavirus. Tony grew up on Syracuse's Northside, born to James and Sylvia Curinga on June 14, 1938. He had fond memories of working at his parents' store, Globe Grocery, stocking shelves and delivering groceries with a wagon. After high school, Tony served in the Army prior to attending Morrisville College where he received an associate degree in electrical engineering. A fiercely independent thinker, Tony valued education, expanding one's horizons and challenging oneself. He worked for 20+ years at General Electric starting as a system engineer for fusion and solar energy programs before retiring as a highly respected manager of large, technologically complex radar and sonar programs. He took courses at Union College, Syracuse University and those offered through General Electric to enable his career growth, but also to satisfy an insatiable quest for knowledge. Tony was highly regarded for his intelligence, integrity and someone others wanted to work for and be with.

Family was most important to him. Sunday family dinners were the highlight of the week. A good and kind man, he left a legacy of valuable lessons for his children and grandchildren: Bernadette Roberts (Gary), Abigail and Westley of Tucson, AZ, Jennifer Curinga (favorite aunt) of Manhattan, NY, Gabrielle Curinga (Tim), Vincenzo of Bainbridge Island, WA and Kathryn Bolster (Kevin), Anella and Isabella of Marcellus, NY. Tony will be missed by all who knew him including his sister, Rosemarie Tone of Baldwinsville, NY, brother Frank Curinga of Syracuse, NY, nephews Bernie and Steven Tone, niece Sheila Welch, all of Marcellus, NY, and especially his wife of 53 years, Jean Ann Curinga of Marcellus, NY, who says her years with Tony were the best of her life and his spirit will live on with her forever.

Although the last 15 years of his life were difficult as he coped with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, he remained sweet and kind as his memory faded away. Donations can be made in his name to Alzheimer's Association.

There will be no services at this time.
