On January 31, 2021, Alison “Connie” Waters of Skaneateles, New York, passed away peacefully after a long illness at the age of 82.
Born July 17, 1938 and raised in Marcellus, New York, she is the daughter of the late Esther Wilcox and Charles Breed Carpenter. She is survived by her children, Thomas D. (Lynne) Waters, Jr., Alison J. Waters, and Suzanne E. (Ed Luczyski) Waters, her longtime companion, Robert Horst, her grandchildren Kristin and Michael Waters, her sisters Jean Thompson, Jodelle Fletcher, Daurice Carpenter, her sister in law Marjorie (Myles Gordon) Waters, her cousin Jean Whalen as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas D. Waters, Sr., and her brother Warren Carpenter.
She graduated from Marcellus High School and went on to attend Syracuse University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. She was a prolific and award-winning artist, and her paintings are displayed in many local businesses and private collections throughout the US and abroad. She taught watercolor painting and other art forms for many years and was a member of the Marcellus Skaneateles Art Guild, Camillus Art Association and Syracuse Allied Arts. She was active within the local arts community and showed her artwork at many galleries, libraries, and art shows throughout Central New York. She loved the outdoors and spent many hours sketching her favorite subjects while walking various nature trails and she particularly loved spending time at the Camillus Erie Canal Park.
While creating art was her passion, she also worked for many years at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and enjoyed spending time with friends at the former Camillus Clubhouse.
Due to Covid-19 regulations, services to celebrate Alison’s life will be held in the spring at Plis Funeral home and burial will be at the South Onondaga Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kindred Kingdoms Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Inc. or Baltimore Woods Nature Center.
