Obituary for Betty Jean Beale (Franklin)

Betty Jean Beale (Franklin)
Jean Beale, beloved wife, mother, and Nana, went home to the arms of Jesus
her Savior on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the age of 76. She had a long career
caring for others as a loving mother, nurse, and nurse practitioner. She
was also known as a spiritual caregiver, providing a welcoming home to
foster children, refugees from Lebanon and Iraq, and others wherever she
made a home. She encouraged her children’s education with her love of
books and music, and encouraged the growth of their faith, as well.

Jean was born Betty Jean Franklin on May 21, 1942, to Isadore and
Elizabeth Franklin in Metter, Georgia. She was the fifth of seven
children: Josephine, Robert, Louise, Sarah, Margie, and Wade, and is
survived by her sisters. Her family moved to Lake Wales, Florida, where
she completed primary and secondary education. While in nurse’s training
at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, she met David Beale, a recently
graduated electrical engineer from the University of Florida. They were
married on November 9, 1963, at Allapattah Baptist Church in Miami.

Jean traveled with David as his work took them across the country and
around the world, having lived in Florida, North Dakota, New Jersey, New
York, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), Australia, and Italy.
She was active in church wherever she went, often teaching women’s Bible
studies, as well as organizing dinners, parties, and concerts. Jean worked
as a nurse in Florida, North Dakota, New York, and on Kwajalein, RMI. Her
work as a nurse practitioner was at the Veterans Administration hospital
in Syracuse. She and her husband also visited their children when they
were living in Mexico, France, Germany, the UK, and Guam.

She is survived by her husband David; son Michael and his wife Dianne,
with their son Micah; daughter Robin and her husband Peter, with their
sons Joshua and Joel; and daughter Amy and her husband Aaron with their
daughter Lily.
A memorial service will be held on 2:00 p.m., Saturday,
June 9, at Grace Chapel, 1674 US Route 20, Skaneateles, NY 13152.
