Obituary for Dorothy M. Dunham (Greenfield)

Dorothy M. Dunham, 97, of Marcellus passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 at Auburn Community Hospital. Born in Auburn to the late Charles and Pearl Esther Stratton Greenfield, she studied/worked toward her RN degree at the Auburn Memorial Hospital School of Nursing until the beginning of WWII, when she left to raise her family. Years later, she began working at the US Census Bureau, where she would eventually retire as a Supervisor. Dorothy loved to play piano and harpsichord (and could still play "My Wild Irish Rose" at the age of 96). She loved to bake, and tend to her cats, dogs, and many flower gardens. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Richard N. Dunham, and sisters Wilma E. Gunsalus and Leona M. Leubner.

Dorothy is survived by her brother Robert C. Greenfield; sons Daniel R. Dunham and Robert A. Dunham; daughter Laurie J. Marossy James; grandsons Richard N. Dunham James and Robert E. James Jr.; granddaughter Kristina A. Marossy Graham; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved. Over the years she formed a special bond with many of her friends and neighbors; in particular, Carl and Cindy Riggall, who became close family friends over many years; neighbors Tim and Patty Sweet, who always looked out for her and enjoyed many conversations with her; neighbor Wendy Sherman who shared a common bond in their love of animals and flowers; and neighbor Barbara Corey who shared many stories and baked goods. She also had a special bond with her first cousin (once removed) Linda M. Greenfield, who lives close-by.

Graveside services for Dorothy will be 11 a.m. Saturday September 26 in Owasco Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday September 25 at the Plis Funeral Home, 33 North St. Marcellus, NYS Guidelines will be followed requiring face masks, social distancing and occupancy limits.
