Obituary for Eugene E. "Chappy" Chapman

Eugene Edward "Chappy" Chapman, 78, of Syracuse passed away Tuesday May 17, 2011 at home with his wife and caregiver at his side after a lengthy illness. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Skaneateles Central Schools at the age of 15. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and retired from New Process Gear as a general foreman in 1987 after 37 years of service.
Gene and Pat owned and operated Cedarvale Inn for 10 years and he continued his horseshoe league until 2010. Together they traveled, showed T.W. Horses from NY to VA., raised Pomeranians, boated and fished the St. Lawrence River. He also hunted, played in a weekly pitch league and danced for 28 years. Gene also enjoyed bowling, Nascar and his garden, where his parsnips were legendary among his friends and family.
He was a former member of the ABC, secretary of the Marcellus Men's League, life member of the NRA, member of the Otisco Lake Rod and Gun Club, and a life member of the Ralph Share Post 297 American Legion.
He was predeceased by his parents, infant son Larry, sisters Norma Deyneka, and Pearl Jackson, his mother in law Dorothy Case and his sister in law Jacqueline Case Thompson.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 31 years Patricia Loomis Chapman, son Mark (Patty) Chapman of Buena Vista, VA, daughters Jeanne (Gary) Brewer of Lewisburg, W. VA, Joanne (Mike) Stopyro of Jupiter, FL, step daughters Lisa (Joe Sawtell) Welch and Danielle (Jim) Gillmore both of Skaneateles, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. His exceptional neighbors Jim and Naomi, special brother in law Gerald Welch and aide Tanya HCA.
Calling hours will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday May 21, 2011 at the Plis Funeral Home, 33 North St. Marcellus.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Marcellus Ambulance or Hospice of CNY.
