Obituary for Gene Creech

Eugene R. Creech, 88 of Marcellus, N.Y. (formally Skaneateles), passed away peacefully on Wednesday. Eugene was born in Hancock, N.Y. in 1934. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Collbaugh. After his service to our country, he was employed on the Catskill-Delaware Water Tunnel project. After working on the tunnels in the Catskill Mountains, he worked for S.J. Groves & Sons. He served as chief estimator and project manager on various highway, dam and tunnel projects throughout the Northeast United States. After working for S.J. Groves for 27 years he was employed as the project manager for Perini Corporation on the reconstruction of Interstate 490/590 “Can of Worms” in Rochester, N.Y. Upon finishing in Rochester he was called to build Lock & Dam #5 on the Red River in Shreveport, Louisiana. Finally retiring in 1994, he enjoyed family, traveling, golfing, boating and becoming a snowbird in Florida. Eugene also took great pride in being the owner of the Bird’s Nest Motel in Skaneateles. During retirement, he oversaw the business in various capacities. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends at his home on Skaneateles Lake. Gene always stayed humble and rarely discussed his awards and various achievements. He enjoyed meeting new people, and sharing his wisdom on life. He rarely missed an opportunity to discuss politics, tell a joke and enjoyed the company of his loyal dog. He was predeceased by his brother William and sister Kathleen.
Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years Patricia A. (Evans) Creech; brothers and sisters, Audrey, Sam, John and Marie, sons and daughters; Mark, Wendy, Cathy and Cindy, step-sons; Robert and Chris. He also is survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, November 5th from 10am-12pm at the Plis Funeral Home, 33 North Street, Marcellus, N.Y. A brief memorial service will be held at 12pm.
