Obituary for George Washington Beck

George Washington Beck, 93, of Marcellus passed away Sunday August 4, 2019 at the VA Medical Center. Born in Independence, IN, he retired from Lipe Rollway in 1989 after 35 years of being a Millwright. He loved the outdoors especially to garden, fish, hunt and snowmobile. George was a member of the Steelworkers Union District 50, the Borodino Grange No. 1272, The Marcellus United Methodist Church and the Marcellus Snowmobile Club.
He served in the US Army form 1946-1949 in Italy in the Quartermasters Corps, 88th Blue Devil Regiment and again from 1950-1951 during Korea as part of the 7th Infantry, 32 Regiment where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Coonley-Nojaim Memorial Chapter #30.
George is survived by his wife of 47 years Jeannette, daughter Catherine (John) Cain, sons Joseph, Thomas (Carol) and Jon, step-son Donald (Suzanne) Ackley-Perot, sisters Martha Beck, Agnus Watson and Helen Carter, brothers Frank and David Beck along with 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by 2 brothers, 2 sisters a daughter Georgeen Eklund, 2 step daughters Cynthia Warner and Lynnette Ackley and grandson Benjamin Cain.
Services for George will be 11 a.m. Friday August 9 at the Plis Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may call on the family from 4-7 p.m. Thursday August 8 at the funeral home, 33 North St., Marcellus.
