Obituary for John "Jack" Hunter Ramsden

John Hunter Ramsden - or Jack, as many knew him - of Syracuse, died on August 4. He was strong, sure, and kind. Always greeting others with a smile. He left too soon.
His greatest loves were his wife of 41 years, Anne; his children, Luke, Carolyn, and Ellen; his four precious grandchildren; long VW drives in lake country, all matched only by baseball. His love for baseball was fundamental to his love of living. Come what may, he cheered and cried with his Toronto Blue Jays since their inception.
Jack was born on July 26, 1948 and was raised in Marietta. Life took him from the family farm, to serve his country in the US Army, to serve the public as a US Park Police officer, and to serve and protect our National Parks as a Park Ranger.
With a love of Central New York, and a passionate commitment to environmental and human rights, Jack supported his community through service. He contributed his time and energy to numerous campaigns led by Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation, Sierra Club, Shaleshock CNY, and the DEC Onondaga Lake cleanup. He was proud to be affiliated with these organizations, and lived their missions every day.
Jack is survived by his siblings Lona, Keith, Kay, and Brian and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. To honor Jack's wishes, there will not be a formal service.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Syracuse Peace Council or the Sierra Club.
