Julia Grega Lupo, 93, fell asleep in the Lord, surrounded by her family on Russian Orthodox Saint Nathaniel Day, April 22.
Julia was a life resident of Auburn. She worked joyously for the past 76 years as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother in the home that her loving husband Anthony built. Julia was a faithful member of Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church where her parents were early founders. She served 30 years as the treasurer of Saint Marion's Sisterhood and an active member of Saint Nicholas' FROC. Julia embraced her faith in all aspects from making the ethnic foods of Pascha bread, pierogies, and halupki. She was one of many core facilitators when it came to organizing dinners, the annual bazaar or for using her "eagle-eye" when it came to the smallest details. Julia passed on the traditions that she learned as a small girl to the three generations that came after her: pysanky eggs, singing to Saint Nicholas on his day, Christmas Eve's Holy Supper, Blessing of the food baskets on Pascha.
She enjoyed cooking, family picnics, knitting keepsakes, and hosting pool parties in her backyard, shopping, traveling and sharing her blessing with various causes. Julia loved her New York Yankees. She was proud to be a Marine Mom. Julia's greatest passion was always her family. It is by her example that some of her most powerful lessons will never be forgotten: Faith – "with God all things are possible", Love – is the greatest gift to give and to receive and Family – is forever.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Aversa, and sons, Rocco, Anthony and David Lupo, all of Auburn. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Margaret Caliendo and Greta Grega, of Florida; nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, John and Anna Grega, she was predeceased by her husband of 72 years Anthony, her sisters Helen (William), Anna(Andrew), Mary; her brothers, Michael (Frances), John(Mary), Luke, Andrew, and John; daughter-in-law Joanne Lupo, and son-in-law Peter Aversa.
"Ana" especially enjoyed her Sunday brunches after church with Peter, Jacquelyn, Julie Aversa, Alexandra Monson, Johanna, David, Dominika, Noah, Nathaniel, and Makrina Donch, Melissa, William and Luke Wilczek, Dana Lupo, David, Jamie, Cole and Cameron Lupo; and her precious Pretty Girl.
Christos Voskrese services for Mrs. Lupo will be 9:30 am Monday, from Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Saint Nicholas Cemetery, Half Acre.
Friends are invited to call from 3p to 6p Sunday at Saint Nicholas Church on the corner of Cross and Cottage Street, Auburn.
