Obituary for Mary Jane Domurat (Lathrop)

Mary Jane (Lathrop) Domurat, of Marcellus joined her husband on March 2, 2014. She was born June 11, 1945 to the late Clayton G. and Elizabeth (Riggall) Lathrop. On September 15, 1973 she married her sweetheart John A. Domurat, to whom she was married to for 34 years before his passing in 2007.
Mary Jane earned an Associate's degree in Business from Cayuga Community College and went on to work at Farmers and Traders Life Insurance Co.. Later on she worked for the US Postal Service in Marcellus for 26 years before her retirement.
Mary Jane was involved in a variety of clubs and organizations throughout the years. She was a member of 4-H growing up, later becoming a 4-H leader when her children joined the organization. She was a longtime member of Morningstar Chapter #289 Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to being a part of the history of Marcellus, she has been a member of the Marcellus Historical Society and became well known as the Marcellus Memories columnist in the Marcellus Observer later the Eagle Observer. She was also involved in the USO, which is how she met her husband while he served in the Air Force.
Mary Jane is survived by her daughter Marybeth Domurat, her son Chris (Bernadette) Domurat, brothers Tom (Diane) Lathrop, Dick (Pat) Lathrop and Harry Lathrop, granddaughters Mia and Kyley and several nieces and nephews. In addition the being predeceased by her husband and parents she was also predeceased by her younger brother James "Jimmy" Lathrop.
Services for Mary Jane will be 10 a.m. Friday March 7 at the Plis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 4-7 p.m. Thursday March 6 at the funeral home, 33 North St., Marcellus. Eastern Star service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday following calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marcellus Historical Society.
