Obituary for Jerry May

Jerry May came into this world Oct., 1947. In keeping, Fall turned out to be his favorite season. He experienced loss at a young age and grew close to his family through marriage. He was welcomed into the Riggall family. Family was the center of his world.
Jerry liked helping people. He took care of his Mom as she aged. He served as a Marcellus Volunteer Firefighter and became a Life Member. After graduating from MCHS in 1968, he started his career working long hours for Onondaga County DOT, (Marcellus Shop), keeping roads safer for people to travel. When others celebrated having a snow day, he knew he had to go to work no matter what day or what time.
He operated heavy equipment and retired from the DOT at age 55. During his life, he also worked for Bill’s Security, Pinkerton, and Morris Protective.
Camping was his favorite past-time. He travelled cross country and enjoyed meeting
others who loved camping. He also enjoyed RV and car shows, Oswego Speedway races, scanners, music, family picnics, visits from the kids, grandkids, grand puppies.
He was a man of few words but you could feel his presence. He made people laugh without even trying.
Jerry’s challenges with MS and cancer ended Feb 16, 22. He did his best to stay positive throughout treatment and was grateful to all that helped him. He was predeceased by his parents Alzina and Richard May, brothers Jimmy and Eddie, sons Scotty and Timmy, father-in-law Bill Riggall, and brother-in-laws Billy and Bobby. He is survived by spouse Wanda, daughter and son-in-law Dawn (Jim), son and daughter-in-law Jeremy (Erin), “adopted daughter” Julie, grandchildren Brittany, Ceairra, Conner, mother-in-law Evelyn Riggall, sister-in-laws Deb, Susie, Margie, brother-in-law Paul and Marshall, nieces, nephews, cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marcellus Fire Dept. or Hospice CNY.
