Obituary for Michael M. Bishop

Michael M. "Max" Bishop, 92, formerly of 15 Grant St., Auburn, died Saturday, November 15th, at the Commons on St. Anthony. He is reunited in heaven with his loving wife Josephine E. "Joey" Bishop who died in 2000.
Mr. Bishop was a life resident of the Auburn area, the son of the late Andrew and Katherine Ewanechko Bishop. He retired as a Security Guard from Auburn Memorial Hospital. Prior to that he had owned Bishop's Family Grocery Store, and also worked in the airline industry, and for Scolaro Vending.
He was a communicant of St. Hyacinth's Church.
Max was an Army Veteran of WW II, proudly serving as a tank specialist with the 14th Armored Division. He trained in the mountains of Tennessee and Kentucky, was stationed at Fort Smith Arkansas, and say action in the European Theater at the Battle of the Bulge, Alsasce Larraine, the Ardennes, Germany and France. He developed lifetime friendships, and attended conventions with his Army buddies, telling stories about his wartime experiences. He had the opportunity to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, several years ago.
He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, as a driver. He enjoyed daily walks, playing golf, doing Sudoku, and traveling to Florida and warm weather places with his wife. He loved the beauty of the Finger Lakes, and spent many summers at Owasco Lake.
Max is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Nancy Bishop of Auburn, his sister Stella Allen of Auburn, brothers Ted (Olga) Bishop of Ontario, Canada, and Richard (Christine) Bishop of Auburn, sisters-in-law Billie Yura, Billie Bishop and Jean Farrar, several nieces and nephews and cousins, special friend Sally Gallo, and caretaker Betty Covert.
Friends are invited to call Saturday from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Plis Funeral Home, 220 State St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 A.M. in St. Hyacinth's Church. Burial with Honors will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

The family is grateful to the 7th Floor staff at the Commons on St. Anthony for the love and care they gave Max.
"Max loved to show his patriotic spirit. He loved God, country and his family. He enjoyed Auburn's tight knit community. We will miss his baby blue eyes, and mellow demeanor."
