Obituary for Ronald J. Derring

Ronald J. Derring, 71, of Auburn, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, following an extended illness.
Ron was a life resident of the Auburn area, the son of the late John and Helen Miller Derring. He was a former employee of TRW, Auburn, retiring in 1993. He was also involved in ownership of several retirement facilities. He was an avid hunter and bird watcher, and enjoyed traveling. He was an accomplished handyman, and he enjoyed researching various topics and projects. Ron was proud of his Polish Heritage, and was devoted to his pride and joy, his daughter Leah.
Ron is survived by his daughters Leah Derring of Rochester, and Missy (Bryan) Sherman of Myrtle Beach, S.C., sons Sean (Athena) Mays of New Jersey, and Steven Scott of Groton, and grandchildren Megan and Shannon Mays, and Brendan and Maxwell Sherman. He is also survived by his sister Carol Wood of Central Square, and his niece Laraine Nuswiecki.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Debra Mays, in 1994, and his son Peter Derring.
Funeral services for Mr. Derring will be at 11 A.M. Saturday, at the Plis Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends are invited to call TODAY from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St.
