Obituary for Salvatore Ruta

Salvatore "Sam" Ruta, 82, of Auburn, died Thursday, July 4, 2013. Sam was a life resident of the Auburn area, the son of the late Rosario and Mary Campanella Ruta. He was a graduate of Union Springs High School, Class of 47. He was employed by ALCO, doing Quality Control, and retired in the late 80's, following 40 years of service. He was a former member of the Auburn Board of Education, and the Auburn Coin Club. He loved gardening, his best friends Pansy and Freckles, and could fix anything.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Rodak Ruta, his three daughters Judy of Liverpool, Mary Ann (Dennis) McCarthy of Auburn and Kathleen Arpino of Syracuse. Also surviving are his sisters Margaret ( Nate ) Gambuzza of Auburn, and Josephine Placek of Eau Claire, WI. and his brother John Ruta of College Park, Maryland, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Lucy Indelicato, and his brother Angelo Ruta.
Funeral services for Mr. Ruta will be at 11:15 A.M. Tuesday, from the Plis Funeral Home, and at Noon in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call Monday, from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St.
Contributions may be made in his memory to the E. John Gavras Center, or the Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY.
