Obituary for Sophie Kury

Sophie Kury, 96, of Auburn, died Sunday, February 9, 2014, following a brief illness. Sophie was a native of Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Iwanicki Sawran. She resided most of her life in the Auburn area. She was retired from Auburn Memorial Hospital, and prior to that she had been employed as a waitress at several local restaurants. She was an active member of SS Peter & Paul Church. She was a member and past officer of the St. Mary's Society at the church, and sang in the church choir. She was a member and past officer of the Mothers Club and P.T.A., and was active with the Sicz Club.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Farrell of Auburn, Nancy (Robert) Lepak of Saranac Lake, and Dennis Kury of Valencia, CA.. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Fred and Kathy Farrell, Adam Kury and Sarah Lepak, three great grandchildren, and several cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Kury in 1977.
Sophie's family would like thank the staff at the Commons on County House Rd. for their care and compassion .
Funeral services for Mrs. Kury will be at 9:45 A.M. Friday, from the Plis Funeral Home, and 10:15 in SS Peter & Paul Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St., Auburn.
Contributions may be made in her memory to SS Peter & Paul Church, or a charity of one's choice.
