Steve Popovich, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away last Thursday January 9, 2020. He was loved and will be sorely missed. His passions included the mountains of Montana, skiing, skateboarding, film making, and music. His love of the outdoors was a cornerstone of his existence. This combined with a creative film making style, music making, and a wry sense of humor were some of the ways he entertained and shared love with family and friends. A true River Rat, he also spent years in the Thousand Islands on the St Lawrence River. Water sports linked him to his love affair with skiing as did the similarity between river life and the mountains.
He is survived by his mother and step father Mary Popovich and Sky van Ingen, sister Amy Popovich, maternal grandfather Maynard Bowman, step brothers Robert, Erik and Pieter van Ingen and nieces Maggie Beshaler and Piper van Ingen, aunt Nancy (Carl) Boyer, uncle Michael (Jean) Bowman and cousins Megan and Jeff Boyer, Rusty Bowman, Stephanie Villacreces and Sarah Skinner. He was predeceased by his father James Popovich.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at the Skaneateles Ski Hill on Friday January 17. 7-10 PM. 2995 Rte. 174, Marietta, NY 13110. All are welcome.
