Obituary for Susan Smith

Susan Kapcha Smith, 96, of Auburn, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the Finger Lakes Center for Living, following an extended illness.
Sue was a life resident of the Auburn area, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Sluty Kapcha. She was employed by Auburn Memorial Hospital, retiring after 23 years of service. She was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. She was the first woman to serve as Senior Warden of the church, serving for 29 years. She also oversaw St. Nicholas Cemetery during this time.
She is survived by her husband Paul E. Smith of Auburn, he son and daughter-in-law Paul E. Smith II and Margaret, grandson Michael and Danielle Smith, and great grandchildren Hailee and Alex Smith, all of Auburn. She is also survived by her brother John Kapcha of Auburn, godchild Sister Onuphria Wick, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Simkulet, Ann Erniss, Helen Kostisick, Nancy and Margaret Kapcha, and her brother George Kapcha.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be 9 A.M. Friday, from the Plis Funeral Home, and 9:30 A.M. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Half Acre. Friends are invited to call Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St., Auburn
