Obituary for Theodore S. Herbert

Theodore S. "Ted" Herbert, 83, of Auburn, passed away Tuesday July 14, 2015 at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, graduating to the kingdom of our Lord.
Born and raised in Auburn, Ted was the son of the late Stephen and Eva Pesarchick Herbert, and was a 1950 graduate of Holy Family High School. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of four years, serving as a destroyer boiler man, and enjoyed a successful 38 career with New York Telephone/Verizon.
Ted enjoyed traveling and was a masterful socializer that never met a stranger. He loved meeting people in his job and helping them. He was a hard worker who continuously moved from one project to the next. He loved to work with his hands in the construction of anything, and took tremendous pride in producing excellent work results. One of his most prized achievements was a stint that he enjoyed as a championship baseball coach ("Jumping Ted") on the Pony, Little and Babe Ruth League levels.
Ted prioritized God, his family, and his friends. He was a patriot that loved his country, and was a devout student of history, world culture, politics and especially his Ukrainian heritage. He was outgoing, irrepressible and a lot of fun to be around. Foremost he was the most loyal, devoted and generous Dad that his sons could have been blessed with. To our greatest supporter, mentor and friend we extend the highest tribute. There is no replacing the incomparable "Big Ted".
Ted is survived by his sons, Stephen (Marlo), Christopher (Jennifer), and Timothy (Vicky), his sister Joanie (Tom) Short, grandchildren Aubrey, Teddy and Joseph, and nieces, nephews and cousins. Ted was predeceased by his brother Wally and sister Dorothy.
Funeral services for Ted will be at 8:30 A.M. Monday from the Plis Funeral Home, and 9 A.M. in St. Peter & Paul Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call Sunday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 220 State St..
