Obituary for Thomas S. Robinson

Thomas S. Robinson, 93, of Marcellus passed away Monday December 12, 2011 at Upstate University Hospital @ Community General. He was born in Glenora, NY, on January 3, 1918, son of the late Annah M. and Charles Robinson. He graduated from Watkins Glenn High School and the NY State Merchant Marines Academy. After he and his wife lived in Exeter, NH, Mexico city, Denver, CO., and Seattle WA., they settled in Marcellus where he was a sales representative for Mason-Neilan for 32 years. Tom then established Thomas Robinson Associates from which he retired in 1983. During WWII he sailed in the US Merchant Marines as Chief Engineer taking supplies to Murmansk, Russia and to the ports in the Pacific theater of War. Tom was honored and received a medal from the Russian Federation in 1992 for his humanitarian efforts and also received medals from President Truman.
Tom was a member of the Marcellus First Presbyterian Church, church elder and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Morning Star Lodge #524 F&A.M. for over 50 years and the Ralph Share American Legion Post #297. Tom loved hunting, archery, camping, motor cycle touring and gardening in which he was a master gardener at the Cornell Corporative Extension.
Tom leaves behind his wife of 61 years Kathleen; son Thomas Jr., of Syracuse daughters Andrea (Mark) Foley of Camillus, Nancy Robinson of Syracuse and Amy Robinson of Virginia and grandsons Jason and Jeffrey Foley.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday December 16, 2011 at the Plis Funeral Home, 33 North St., Marcellus. A memorial service will be held in the spring at a time to be announced.
